Catalyst 2026: The Power of Showing Up

Nick Clift reflects on a day at Catalyst Sydney 2026. It wasn’t about the sessions; it was about the conversations. A reminder that business is still fundamentally about people.

It’s easy to look at a conference agenda and think the value is in the slides.

We tick the boxes. We sit in the dark rooms. We take notes on the "latest trends" and "disruptive technologies."

But if I’m honest, the most valuable part of my day at Catalyst Sydney 2026 wasn’t a keynote. It wasn’t a panel discussion.

It was catching up with Scott Atkinson.

We’ve both been in the MSP community for a long time. Thirty years is a blink of an eye when you’re in the trenches, but it’s also a lifetime of shared experiences, missed opportunities, and wins we probably didn’t celebrate enough at the time.

Standing there, coffee in hand, ignoring the noise of the exhibition hall, we just talked.

Not about KPIs. Not about EBITDA multiples. Not about the latest RMM tool that promises to save us all from ourselves.

We talked about life. About the shifts in the industry that we’ve both felt but rarely articulated. About the people we’ve worked with and the lessons that stuck.

It hit me, again, how much we underestimate the power of presence.

In a world that’s increasingly digital, automated, and efficient, there’s something radically human about just showing up. Looking someone in the eye. Listening to what they’re saying, not just waiting for your turn to speak.

Scott and I have seen the MSP industry go through countless cycles. We’ve seen the boom, the bust, the consolidation, and the reinvention. But through all of it, the constant has been connection.

Business isn’t B2B or B2C. It’s H2H. Human to Human.

Catalyst was great. The energy was high. The ideas were fresh. But the highlight was a quiet conversation with an old friend who reminds me why I love this community.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the "noise" of business lately, maybe the answer isn’t more information. Maybe it’s just a better conversation.
